After visiting Manchester we popped into ikea in Warrington and that’s when the depression well and truly took hold, it felt we had gone back in time – and not in a good way
So we looked at possible furniture for the new place
We took the train from Chirk to Newport to see what the place possible apartment looked like, we knew it would be small, and it was/ is. But at least there is a balcony and a view of the river Usk and Paul just has short walk, skip and jump to work
Tiny inside (micro-living), but close to the river and work for Paul
Can see the apartment (left) and work (right)
Into Newport for the glamour (we were overdressed!), lunch at Cafe Nero, then back on the train (full of glamorous people)
Recovered from our journey, plus lots to do round the house (cleaning etc etc) for weekend guests a bed even had to be made
of course there was reclying and shopping at tesco….
The day was lovely, possibly the warmest we have known in Wales so far, Jane arrived in the afternoon and we chatted and laughed and the sun shone into the evening, so we sat outside and drank watermelon lemonade cocktails
We were hoping for a lie in as people were arriving at 6pm, and i did send a tweet to Jane upstairs saying ‘what is the ETA’ at that moment the phone rang and they were there at Chirk station, panic!
Quick run around and out to pick up, back, in shock I made rhubarb crumble
Small picnic outside and someone missed out on the hummus
Trip out to Lake Vrrnnnmmyyyyy, spot of lunch (not great) considering it has one of the best views in the world the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired
Weather had that hot/ cold/ wet/ dry look about it
Flowers in vase at home
Making butternut squash soup
Up incredibly early to drive to Newport to try and get the place ready to move into on Sunday
Took 3 hours to get there, and we arrived to rain to pick up the keys from the magical ‘merlin house’
Onto apartment, the road was being digged up, so we have to drive on the ‘pavement’, into apartment.
All was clean (even the oven) and low, after 5 minutes of being there, the furniture arrived, which saved us form just having the 2 white seats
We were exhausted
Had an early tea, oh the glamour and the delightful way the slop (sorry) food was dished on the plates. The sprig of parsley really brought the dish alive don’t you think?
Back to the van, took a few moments ot work out how to open the back door of the van, funny (not!). Loaded all up and then off back to Newport to find curries, to pick up a telly
Back to apartment, then had to carry everything in and make stuff, there is a huge sense of relief when a thing connects with another, not quite orgasmic, but close its the ‘ikea hole’ or ‘ihole’
And we made out bed and are going to lie in it
A tiny cloud passed by
And after 24 hours the apartment looked ready for us to move in
House dragon made themselves at home
And off we went, back to north Wales again, by chance there was a queue of traffic on the Mwotsit, so we went on a detour through Monmouth and how lovely it looks, deffo would like to put down roots there!
Cheese grater smaller than Squeak, everything had to be tiny in the micro apartment
Caught my toe in the bath, youch!
And off we were to New York and Philadelphia for Paul’s birthday/ Madonna gig
The big apple(s)?
We went to Penn station to pick up tickets, bit of a queue, but at least we had ’em
Then we hit Macy’s, first stop was lunch. Paul had one of his fave sandwiches, Cranberry Walnut bread with Turkey, YUM!
Out to Robert as consiege had managed to get us table at 8.30, food was good, my chilled corn soup just tasked like cold soup, but the desert was a fiesta of strawberry….
And Paul’s desert looked like something from Mars
Off to Crate and Barrel via central park
These women hated each other, you could tell
And off to Philadelphia. Got to hotel, bit of a wait, Paul had song sung to him and we were in El Presidete Suite, whom knows why, crazy!
Free bar at gig, oh dear!
We left Philly exactly 24 hours later
